Algeciras, 2023
Violence as well as ethnic, religious and political persecution at home are just some of the reasons why refugees seek protection abroad. Each case is unique. A combination of factors often forces people to leave their homes in search of safety and opportunity. Being a refugee is an extremely difficult experience for anyone, but children are especially vulnerable due to their age, dependency, and the multiple ways the hardships of the refugee experience can affect their development and well-being.
At Let’s Bot!, we recognize the difficulties and challenges these youngsters face, and we are committed to values of social responsibility, solidarity, empathy, empowerment and inclusion. We believe that all children deserve access to meaningful and enriching learning opportunities, and we are dedicated to making this vision a reality.
In December 2023, during the holiday season, we moved to Algeciras to celebrate a new Let’s Bot! in collaboration with the Spanish Commission for Refugee Aid (CEAR) and with the support of the Cruz Blanca Foundation. For two days, newly arrived refugee children of different ages and backgrounds, gathered to explore the world of robotics at the Foundation’s facilities.
The practical workshops taught them new skills and sparked their interest in technology in a space that nurtured community and trust. This became a powerful tool for empowerment, inclusion, and personal development. With the holiday season as a backdrop, Let’s Bot! Algeciras combined fun, learning, and hope. It was a reminder of the human potential to grow and find joy even in difficult circumstances.
